Sustaining Business Financial Health

This capstone unit integrates internal controls, budgeting, tax and regulatory compliance, financing decisions, and ethical financial reporting for small businesses. Students refine audit and control procedures, apply living budgets and cost analysis, evaluate entity and exit choices, and stabilize sources of capital while addressing insurance, payroll, logistics, customer care, and communication to sustain financial health.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze a small business’s internal control environment and design improvements, including audit procedures and corrective actions to reduce fraud, errors, and compliance risks
• Apply budgeting and cost-analysis techniques to create and manage living budgets, forecast cash and profit positions, and use budget tools to guide operational decisions
• Evaluate financing alternatives, legal entity structures, insurance and tax implications, and exit strategies to recommend options that stabilize capital and align with business goals
• Demonstrate ethical financial management by identifying improper reporting practices, ensuring tax and regulatory compliance, and communicating transparent financial information to stakeholders
