This unit prepares students to enter and advance in the culinary industry by covering job search strategies, career ladders, entrepreneurship basics, and workplace success habits. It builds on prior technical and safety skills and readies students for employment, further CTE coursework, or postsecondary culinary studies.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze regional culinary job postings and industry hiring trends to identify required skills and produce a tailored resume and cover letter for at least two target positions
- Apply effective interviewing, networking, and professional communication techniques by completing a mock interview and a networking activity with instructor feedback
- Develop a personal career advancement plan that evaluates internal job ladders, lateral transfer options, and continuing education pathways, including measurable short- and long-term goals and a timeline
- Demonstrate entrepreneurial and workplace readiness by creating a one-page culinary business concept (basic operations, target market, and revenue considerations) and by role-playing professional strategies to thrive in common industry scenarios
