Foundations of the Digital Nomad

This unit introduces students to the digital nomad lifestyle, covering identity, motivation, basic financial planning, employment pathways, and key logistics such as housing, productivity, health, and in‑country settling. It builds on foundational career exploration and prepares students for subsequent units focused on creating income streams, advanced financial and legal planning, and long-term business decisions.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze personal motivations, strengths, and lifestyle preferences to assess readiness for the digital nomad lifestyle and to define a clear purpose (‘why’) for pursuing it
• Calculate projected monthly and annual income needs and expenses by comparing cost‑of‑living scenarios, housing types, and travel cadence to produce a basic nomad budget
• Evaluate and compare routes to becoming a digital nomad (keeping or converting a current job to remote, freelancing, entrepreneurship, or common nomad jobs) and recommend a best-fit pathway with supporting pros and cons
• Develop a 90‑day transition plan that includes a work‑from‑home implementation checklist, destination selection criteria, housing and workspace options, health and productivity strategies, and action steps for networking and settlement
