Operational Planning for Digital Nomads

This unit guides students through the practical decisions and preparations required to launch and sustain a digital nomad lifestyle. Students will learn to evaluate visa and healthcare options, create budgets and logistics plans, design remote-work strategies, and prepare personal and family stakeholders for a trial period living and working abroad.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze visa, healthcare, and insurance options for multiple destination countries and justify a recommended plan for a specified traveler profile using comparative criteria (cost, eligibility, coverage, and access to services).
• Develop and apply a comprehensive digital nomad budget and operational plan that includes housing booking, essential services setup, shipping or storage decisions, and sustainable travel pacing for a three-month trial period.
• Design and demonstrate a remote-work strategy that incorporates job redesign, remote team collaboration practices, and sourcing contractors/virtual assistants, including templates for launching and marketing a trial remote work period.
• Evaluate personal and interpersonal factors—such as family needs, traveling with children, dating, social balance, and stakeholder concerns—and produce a communication plan to prepare and maintain relationships while living abroad.
