This unit expands foundational medical vocabulary by focusing on system-specific root words, prefixes, suffixes, anatomical terms, and common pathological conditions across multiple body systems. Students will practice building, pronouncing, and interpreting medical terms and using reputable online resources to support accurate usage and clinical relevance.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze medical root words, prefixes, and suffixes to determine the meanings of complex terms related to the lymphatic, respiratory, endocrine, nervous, urinary, reproductive, integumentary, muscular, and cardiovascular systems
• Apply system-based anatomical vocabulary to label structures, describe functions, and explain relationships among tissues and organs covered in the unit
• Demonstrate correct pronunciation, pluralization, and spelling conventions for common medical terms and use online medical reference tools (e.g., Medilexicon, WebMD) to verify terminology
• Evaluate clinical and pathological conditions by breaking down terms into component parts and summarizing their implications for patient assessment and communication
