Advanced Research Design and Reporting

This unit synthesizes experimental and nonexperimental designs, sampling strategies, ethical approval, data reporting, and critical evaluation skills to complete and communicate a research study. It builds on foundational methods from earlier units and readies students to defend, disseminate, or scale their agricultural leadership research in academic or applied settings.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze and select appropriate sampling and research design strategies (random sampling, randomized controlled trials, quasi-experimental, pre-test/comparison groups) given specific research questions and practical constraints
• Apply ethical approval procedures and risk-mitigation strategies to prepare and submit documentation for a classroom or community research project
• Evaluate quantitative results and reporting practices by producing clear results sections, tables/appendices, reference lists, and appropriate rounding and numeric reporting for target audiences
• Demonstrate critical appraisal of study limitations (small samples, nonrandom samples, redundancy) and recommend pragmatic improvements and communication strategies for future research
