Foundations of POST Test Readiness

This unit introduces candidates to the full Notice of Examination, the format and content of written and physical entry exams, and the administrative steps required for police officer hiring. Students will practice core item types (math, reading, grammar, memory/observation, incident reports, and essay writing), learn how to complete the Personal History Statement, and prepare for medical and physical evaluations while developing professional comportment and terminology needed for later units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze the Notice of Examination and exam blueprints to develop a prioritized study plan that identifies test sections, deadlines, and individual baseline performance gaps
• Apply test-taking strategies and content skills to accurately complete sample math, reading-comprehension, grammar, memory/observation, and incident-report items under timed conditions
• Demonstrate written and administrative readiness by composing a compliant Personal History Statement, producing a timed incident report and essay that meet POST standards, and exhibiting appropriate professional conduct for medical and physical evaluations
• Evaluate physical ability and medical requirements by interpreting test standards, completing practice scoring/answer sheets, and using common law-enforcement terminology to communicate readiness and next-step preparation
