This unit introduces learners to the critical tasks, communication practices, and time-management skills required during early-morning shift starts and handoffs. Students will work with scenario-based timestamps (pre-shift at 5:50 AM and active shift at 6:32 AM) to practice decision-making, use of scheduling tools, and standardized communication to ensure continuity and safety.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze pre-shift logs and scenario timestamps to identify and prioritize at least five operational tasks affecting an early morning shift
- Apply time-management and digital scheduling tools to construct a compliant early-shift plan that balances staffing, safety, and customer needs
- Demonstrate effective shift handoff communication by completing a standardized checklist and delivering a clear verbal/written summary in a simulated 6:32 AM transition
- Evaluate early-morning operational scenarios and justify priority decisions using criteria for safety, efficiency, and customer impact
