This unit introduces practical foundations for building web and mobile applications, including tool selection, HTML/CSS structure, basic language syntax (Ruby, Python), and the app development process. Students will also learn to define project goals, locate and evaluate coding reference resources, and create an initial web application prototype to prepare for more advanced development units.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze project requirements to select appropriate development tools, platforms, and programming languages (web or mobile) and justify choices based on constraints and goals
- Apply foundational HTML and CSS structures to build a simple, styled web interface that organizes and displays data (including lists and links)
- Demonstrate the app development process by defining a project goal, conducting targeted research using coding-reference websites, and producing a basic project plan and prototype
- Evaluate the structure and typical use-cases of languages such as Ruby and Python relative to web and mobile development, and document tradeoffs to recommend a suitable language for a given problem
