Content Strategy & Information Architecture

This unit centers on content-first UX workflows: auditing existing assets and constraints, developing a content strategy that aligns user needs and business goals, and designing an information architecture to organize and deliver that content effectively. Students will produce content artifacts and IA deliverables that prepare projects for prototyping, visual design, and implementation.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze existing content assets, platforms, and stakeholder constraints by conducting a content inventory and gap analysis and producing a prioritized content audit report.
• Develop a content strategy that aligns user needs and business goals by creating mission statements, audience profiles, content goals, editorial guidelines (voice and tone), and a content lifecycle plan.
• Design and document content structures and templates by creating content models, metadata schemas, and reusable content components that support accessibility, localization, and maintainability.
• Apply information architecture techniques to produce sitemaps, taxonomies, navigation systems, and content maps, and evaluate organizational choices using basic usability heuristics or tree‑testing results.
