Runtime, Modules, and Components

This unit explores JavaScript runtime behavior, module and dependency management, and component-based front-end development while introducing core Node.js server concepts. Students will scaffold projects with Vite and npm, implement components and data bindings in React/Vue/Svelte, work with asynchronous patterns and modules, and build basic Node.js servers and file/stream operations to prepare for advanced backend and application architecture in the next unit.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze JavaScript runtime behavior including the event loop, Promises, and browser engine interactions to predict and explain asynchronous code execution
• Apply module and dependency management practices by exporting/importing modules, initializing projects with Vite, and managing packages with npm
• Demonstrate component-based front-end development by scaffolding React, Vue, and Svelte components, binding data and events, creating forms, and converting components across frameworks
• Evaluate server-side and debugging techniques by using Node.js core modules (streams, buffers, file I/O), building a basic Express web server, interacting with MongoDB, and debugging in Chrome
