Lower Limb Clinical Integration

This unit synthesizes lower extremity anatomy with clinical assessment, diagnostic imaging, and memory aids to prepare students for applied musculoskeletal evaluation. Students will consolidate knowledge of the hip, thigh, knee, leg, ankle, and foot while practicing image-based interpretation and producing a concise clinical cheat sheet.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze anatomical relationships and clinical relevance of the bones, joints, muscles, nerves, and vasculature of the hip, thigh, knee, leg, ankle, and foot using diagrams and clinical case scenarios
• Apply surface anatomy and palpation techniques to identify key landmarks and perform basic musculoskeletal tests for common lower limb injuries and pathologies
• Demonstrate appropriate selection and basic interpretation of diagnostic imaging modalities (radiography, ultrasound, MRI and/or CT) for common lower limb conditions
• Evaluate mnemonic strategies and synthesize a one-page clinical cheat sheet that summarizes assessment steps, differential considerations, and emergency red flags for lower limb presentations
