This unit integrates core medical, obstetric/gynecologic, trauma, pediatric, and EMS operations topics to build clinical decision-making and hands-on skills needed for EMT exam readiness. Learners will apply assessment algorithms, age-appropriate interventions, scene management principles, and complete a formative practice exam to identify learning gaps before the capstone review.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze signs, symptoms, and underlying pathophysiology of common medical and obstetric/gynecologic emergencies to establish prioritized prehospital assessment and treatment plans.
• Apply trauma assessment and management protocols—including airway control, hemorrhage control, spinal stabilization, and shock recognition—to prioritize interventions and transport decisions.
• Demonstrate pediatric assessment techniques, pediatric-sized airway management, and weight-based medication calculations while using family-centered communication strategies during pediatric emergencies.
• Evaluate EMS operations and scene management practices—including scene safety, triage, documentation, and transport considerations—and complete a timed practice exam to measure readiness and target areas for remediation.
