Secure Accessible Web Applications

This unit brings together client- and server-side techniques to build, harden, debug, and deploy interactive web applications. Students will focus on debugging and error handling, secure session and password management, accessibility and usability improvements, form and DOM programming, and final deployment practices to prepare for capstone work or further web development study.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze client- and server-side behavior by using browser consoles, monitoring script values, interpreting common JavaScript error messages, and applying debugging strategies to identify and fix runtime and logic issues.
• Apply secure development and deployment practices by implementing password hashing, PHP session management, secure directory structures, and strategies for securely deploying static and dynamic sites.
• Demonstrate accessible and usable interfaces by implementing semantic element declarations, keyboard-friendly controls, sufficient color contrast, ARIA or inspector stylesheet adjustments, and validating accessibility with testing tools.
• Evaluate and manipulate data and user input by using arrays, PHP objects, control structures (loops, anonymous and arrow functions), DOM methods, events, and form controls (checkboxes, radio buttons, selection lists) to create robust interactive features.
