BIM Implementation and Integration

This capstone unit focuses on applying BIM across the project lifecycle by integrating procurement, collaboration, interoperability, estimating, fabrication, and facility management workflows. Students will synthesize lessons on tools, metrics, advocacy, and administration to prepare for implementing BIM in real-world practice and ongoing professional development.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze contractor supply chain and procurement strategies to develop BIM-enabled workflows that address interoperability, data ownership, and regulatory requirements
• Apply collaborative file‑sharing, model viewing/checking, quantity takeoff, estimating, and shop‑drawing/fabrication tools to coordinate multidisciplinary models and manage appropriate geometry detail
• Evaluate the real‑world benefits, costs, and productivity impacts of BIM across design, construction, and facilities management using case studies, metrics, and professional publications to support evidence-based adoption recommendations
• Demonstrate an implementation and professional development plan that leverages user groups, associations, virtual libraries, government engagement, and administration tools to encourage BIM adoption and governance
