Beef Cattle Marketing and Management

This capstone unit integrates showmanship, marketing, enterprise management, risk reduction, and animal behavior interpretation for beef cattle operations. Students learn to prepare cattle for exhibition and sale, develop basic business records and budgets, identify and correct common production mistakes, and read bovine behaviors to improve handling and welfare.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze market factors, animal evaluation criteria, and channel options to develop a written show-and-sale marketing plan for a beef animal
• Apply showmanship techniques, pre-sale preparation, and low-stress handling protocols to safely present cattle for exhibition and sale in a simulated or real setting
• Demonstrate business management skills by preparing and interpreting basic enterprise records, a budget, and a simple profitability projection for a small beef operation
• Evaluate common production and management mistakes and interpret bovine behaviors to create corrective action and welfare plans that reduce risk and improve animal performance
