This unit guides students through shaping the middle, climax, and resolution of a stage play while addressing special considerations for musicals and the process of getting work read and revised. Building on earlier units (character, premise, and structure), students will produce and refine scenes that prepare their scripts for workshop and production-level development.

- analyze the dramatic functions of the middle (rising action) and produce a scene-by-scene beat outline that advances character goals and escalating conflict
- apply structural and stylistic techniques to craft a climactic scene that escalates stakes and propels narrative consequences, demonstrated by drafting the climactic sequence in script form
- demonstrate methods for composing and revising a coherent resolution that resolves primary and secondary arcs while maintaining thematic clarity and appropriate pacing
- evaluate musical elements and peer feedback, and integrate revisions to produce a revised script sample suitable for staged readings or submission to workshops
