Foundations of Podcast Production

This unit introduces learners to the essential decisions, tools, and workflows needed to begin producing podcasts. Students evaluate podcast formats and audiences, select appropriate microphones and recording platforms (laptop and mobile), perform basic recording and sound checks, and create introductory edits, show art, and show notes to prepare an episode for promotion and feedback.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze at least three podcast formats and audience types and produce a one-page podcast concept that justifies topic, target audience, and chosen format
• Apply microphone selection criteria and recording-environment techniques to set up a laptop or mobile device, perform a sound check, and deliver a 60-second test recording free of audible clipping and intelligible to listeners
• Demonstrate a basic audio production workflow using Audacity (and Hindenburg PRO basics) by editing a 3–5 minute segment (trim, noise reduction, level balance) and exporting the file at an appropriate kbps with completed show art and show notes ready for promotion
• Evaluate interview and live-podcast preparation by drafting a professional interview request, creating a prepared question list and backup plan for ambient noise, and conducting a mock interview or live segment while outlining a listener-feedback and promotion plan
