Foundations of Financial Resilience

This unit establishes foundational knowledge for understanding economic systems, common financial crises, and personal resilience strategies. Students will assess resources, interpret economic reports, compare investment and insurance options, and build basic recovery and coping plans to prepare for advanced units on long-term planning and portfolio management.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze the components of the economic system and key indicators (e.g., GDP, unemployment, inflation) to determine their potential effects on household financial security.
• Evaluate common financial risks and crisis scenarios and design a prioritized personal emergency plan that incorporates a recovery budget, insurance considerations, and short-term liquidity strategies.
• Demonstrate understanding of basic investment and savings vehicles (stocks, bonds, deposit accounts, and insurance products) by comparing risk, return, liquidity, and time horizon to recommend suitable options for given financial profiles.
• Apply critical media-literacy techniques to assess economic reports and pundits, identifying at least three verification strategies to distinguish evidence-based analysis from sensationalism or fearmongering.
