This unit examines ethical dilemmas arising from scarce resource allocation, cultural and spiritual conflicts in care, parental decision-making, pregnancy rights, and reproductive technologies including surrogacy. Students will apply core ethical frameworks and legal considerations to complex clinical scenarios, building on foundational concepts and preparing to develop institutional policies in subsequent units.

- Analyze ethical frameworks and public-health principles to prioritize and design equitable strategies for allocation of limited basic healthcare resources using case-based evidence
- Evaluate conflicts between spiritual and cultural beliefs and clinical recommendations and apply culturally competent communication and negotiation techniques to develop patient-centered care plans
- Apply legal and ethical principles related to parental authority, minor consent/assent, and best-interest standards to resolve real-world scenarios involving parental guidance and responsibilities
- Demonstrate the ability to analyze and synthesize ethical, legal, and policy considerations surrounding pregnancy rights, reproductive technologies, and surrogacy and design institutional guidelines that protect autonomy and informed consent
