Governance, Data, and Inclusivity

This unit examines how governance, stakeholder engagement, and data shape equitable, sustainable urbanization and smart city practice. Students compare international examples, evaluate governance and boundary issues, and practice inclusive, data-driven planning and co-creation techniques to prepare for implementation and policy design in the following unit.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze stakeholder engagement challenges and design strategies to increase support, participation, and inclusiveness across diverse community groups, using case examples from Asia, Australia, and Europe.
• Evaluate governance structures and cross-jurisdictional constraints to determine their effects on city-scale sustainability, digital interaction, and coordinated service delivery.
• Apply data-driven decision-making methods to a simulated city scenario, integrating urbanization trends, digital interactions, and sustainability priorities to produce actionable recommendations.
• Demonstrate collaborative co-creation and participatory planning techniques that address inclusiveness, behavioral responses to sustainability demands, and boundary-crossing coordination for urban solutions.
