Foundations of AI-Assisted Business Writing

This unit introduces students to core AI concepts, terminology, and everyday applications in business communication while demonstrating how AI can assist with audience analysis, storytelling, drafting, and visual generation. It prepares learners to create and refine prompts, produce AI-assisted drafts across common business genres, and recognize limits and ethical considerations to support more advanced AI writing workflows in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze how AI technologies influence everyday business communication and identify associated ethical, legal, and quality considerations when using AI-assisted writing tools.
• Apply AI tools and chatbot features to perform audience analysis and generate targeted messaging and initial drafts for at least three business genres (e.g., emails, instructions, articles), including accompanying visuals where appropriate.
• Demonstrate prompt engineering skills by composing, testing, and refining prompts to elicit clear, context-appropriate outputs from AI assistants and document iterative improvements.
• Evaluate scenarios to determine appropriate versus inappropriate uses of AI in business writing and recommend human oversight, fact-checking, and revision strategies to ensure accuracy, tone, and ethical compliance.
