Foundations of Resume and Digital Presence

This unit introduces foundational resume concepts, formats, and components while establishing best practices for digital presence and job-search technology. Students will learn to gather and target content, create ATS- and mobile-friendly resume versions, and align online profiles with career goals to prepare for advanced resume development and application strategies in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze common resume formats (reverse-chronological, functional, combination) and select the most appropriate format for at least three distinct job or career scenarios, providing written justification for each selection.
• Apply systematic data-gathering techniques to compile and organize work history, education, achievements, and action-oriented ‘wow’ words into a targeted resume draft tailored to a specific job posting.
• Demonstrate the creation and submission of ATS-friendly and plain-text resume versions, ensuring correct keyword usage, file type selection, and formatting that preserves readability across applicant tracking systems and mobile searches.
• Evaluate personal online and social networking profiles for employer visibility and professional alignment, and implement at least five specific cleanup or privacy actions to improve job-readiness and public presentation.
