Professional Job-Readiness and Communication

This unit develops advanced job-search, interpersonal, and workplace communication skills for agribusiness careers. Students learn employer research, interview and follow-up tactics, negotiation and legal/ethical considerations, and emotional intelligence to prepare resumes, network, and manage early-career workplace challenges.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze employer and hiring-decision information from multiple sources to create targeted contact lists and customized application materials
• Apply professional communication strategies across meetings, media, interviews, and follow-up (including call-email-call and post-interview tactics) to secure and advance employment opportunities
• Demonstrate negotiation, legal, and ethical decision-making skills by responding to employer tactics, crafting offer negotiations, and resolving workplace scenarios
• Evaluate and employ emotional intelligence, feedback, networking, time-management, and alternative career pathways (including entrepreneurship and nondegree routes) to enhance career readiness and leadership potential
