Foundations of Web and Mobile Coding

This unit establishes foundational skills in web and mobile application development, covering HTML, CSS, JavaScript, responsive design, introductory Flutter/Dart, and basic Python data workflows. It prepares students to set up development environments, build and test simple cross-device interfaces, and perform elementary client-side interactions and data handling needed for subsequent units on advanced app features and deployment.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze the roles of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and common frameworks (e.g., Bootstrap, Flutter) in structuring, styling, and delivering content across desktop and mobile devices
• Apply development workflows and tools by setting up local environments, initializing projects (web and Flutter), and deploying test pages to desktop and mobile for validation
• Demonstrate programming fundamentals by writing and debugging code that uses variables, lists, conditionals, functions, objects, events, DOM manipulation, forms, callbacks, and AJAX (in JavaScript) and basic functions/classes in Dart
• Evaluate introductory data handling and visualization techniques by using Python tooling (Anaconda, NumPy, pandas) to upload, sample, and plot data and select appropriate graph types for given datasets
