This unit guides students through building, styling, and troubleshooting web application components using HTML, CSS, and introductory Ruby/Python. Students will analyze an example app, implement tables and forms, apply styling, and practice debugging and task decomposition to prepare for full project development in the final unit.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze the structure and workflow of a sample web application (e.g., McDuck’s Offer App) by deconstructing front-end markup, styling, and back-end steps into a documented sequence of features and responsibilities.
- Apply HTML and CSS techniques to construct and style web pages that include data tables and interactive forms, using common selectors and accessibility-minded markup to meet specified layout and presentation requirements.
- Demonstrate debugging and iterative development practices by identifying, documenting, and resolving errors in HTML/CSS and simple Ruby or Python code, and by breaking a larger goal into prioritized, bite-sized implementation tasks.
- Evaluate deployed web applications and community/technical resources, synthesizing observed design patterns and implementation steps into an actionable plan for improving or completing a related web application project.
