This unit introduces foundational C# language features, the .NET runtime, and core programming practices that prepare students for application development. Students will learn data types, control flow, basic object-oriented concepts, I/O and error handling, and gain a high-level familiarity with UI and platform templates used in later units.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze the architecture and execution model of C# and the .NET platform, including compilation, assemblies, and versioning, to explain how applications are built and run
- Apply core C# constructs—variables, primitive and reference types (strings, enums, structs), arrays, arithmetic, and control flow (if, switch, loops)—to implement and debug console-based programs
- Demonstrate object-oriented programming fundamentals by defining and using classes, methods, access modifiers, inheritance, method overloading, multiple source files, generics, and exception handling to produce modular, maintainable code
- Evaluate and utilize basic I/O, networking, data, and UI building blocks (file streams, System.Data, System.Net, System.Drawing, WPF/UWP/ASP.NET Core templates) while applying secure coding considerations to ready applications for advanced development
