Everyday Laptop Operations & Care

This unit develops students’ practical skills for daily operation, connectivity, security, and physical care of PCs and laptops. Students will practice configuring inputs/outputs, securing and maintaining software and data, troubleshooting common connectivity and power issues, and applying preventative maintenance and safe disposal practices to prepare for advanced troubleshooting and repair.

Learning Objectives

• Demonstrate configuration and troubleshooting of common input/output devices and peripherals (touchscreens, voice input, Bluetooth devices, printers, docking, and external displays) through hands-on tasks and documented procedures
• Apply security and data-protection practices by creating and managing strong passwords, configuring user accounts and privacy settings, identifying and responding to suspicious emails/attachments, and performing regular backups and Windows updates
• Analyze and resolve routine connectivity and power problems—including wireless (Wi‑Fi/Bluetooth), public/hotel network considerations, broken network connections, and power/charging failures—by performing diagnostic steps and restoring functionality
• Evaluate and implement physical maintenance, cooling, cleaning, storage, and end-of-life procedures (cooling pads, stands, locks, screen and general cleaning, safe disposal/recycling, and memory management) to extend device lifespan and maintain performance
