This capstone unit synthesizes previous technical and ethical foundations to explore how AI can power resilient cities, conserve natural systems, and advance social equity. Students evaluate real-world examples and design implementable AI solutions and governance recommendations that address food security, education, accessibility, and economic mobility.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze three or more interdisciplinary case studies (e.g., cognitive cities, wildlife conservation, AI-enhanced creativity) to identify technical components, stakeholder roles, measurable outcomes, and potential risks.
- Evaluate AI-driven strategies for combating the food crisis, reducing inequity, and improving access to basic needs using quantitative and qualitative metrics, and prioritize at least three actionable interventions.
- Design an implementable AI project plan that advances education, accessibility, or economic/social mobility in an energy or natural resource context, including system architecture, data governance, ethical safeguards, cost estimate, and timeline.
- Create a policy brief or professional presentation recommending frameworks for global cooperation, governance, and risk mitigation to enable equitable deployment of AI in energy and natural resource systems.
