This unit teaches students how to finalize mixes through mastering, assemble release-ready products, and plan distribution and promotion tailored to a target audience. It also consolidates professional home-recording practices and troubleshooting techniques to improve session efficiency and sonic quality.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze mastering choices and apply appropriate processing (EQ, compression, stereo imaging, limiting) to produce masters that meet LUFS and peak targets for at least two common release formats
- Demonstrate the ability to create a finished product by sequencing tracks, embedding metadata, preparing stems and mixes in required file formats, and delivering a release-ready file package
- Evaluate distribution and promotion options and develop a release plan that selects and justifies at least five channels or strategies (e.g., streaming platforms, social media, direct-to-fan, playlist pitching, licensing) with goals, timeline, and success metrics
- Apply ten professional recording and session-management tips to troubleshoot common home-studio issues and document measurable improvements in signal flow, noise control, take efficiency, or workflow during a practical project
