Shoot and Edit Fundamentals

This unit teaches hands-on production and basic editing skills for short YouTube videos, including lighting, directing, camera technique, and building an edit in iMovie. It builds on preproduction planning from Unit 1 and prepares students to refine, export, and publish polished videos in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze lighting setups and shot composition to select and adjust three-point and natural lighting arrangements for clear, visually engaging video capture.
• Apply directing and camera techniques (framing, movement, continuity, and shot checking) to plan and record multi-shot scenes that follow professional shooting practices.
• Demonstrate the ability to create and manage a new iMovie project: import footage and webcam recordings, add clips to the timeline, and perform basic edits including trims, transitions, and jump cuts.
• Evaluate and enhance assembled footage by adding titles and recorded voiceovers, and by performing quality checks to meet project standards prior to export.
