Advanced Personal Investment Strategies

This capstone unit integrates practical investing decisions, risk management, and behavioral finance for agribusiness stakeholders. Students synthesize prior lessons to evaluate products and advisors, protect assets, and construct documented, goal‑aligned investment plans for real-world agricultural contexts.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze and compare diversified investment mixes (stocks, bonds, hybrid funds, money market funds, real estate, currencies/cryptocurrencies, and alternatives) and calculate expected returns and percent losses to recommend an allocation that meets a specified agribusiness investor’s goals and risk tolerance.
• Evaluate behavioral and market risks—including media hype, overmonitoring, guru claims, and volatility in currencies and cryptocurrencies—and apply evidence-based monitoring and loss‑limiting strategies to scenarios to preserve portfolio performance.
• Demonstrate the ability to evaluate financial products and intermediaries by assessing fund types, broker differences, fees, fiduciary status, and advisor credentials using a standardized checklist and justify a recommended advisor or platform.
• Apply accounting, tax, and asset‑protection practices (recordkeeping, insurance, custodial/college accounts, and contingency planning) to construct a compliant, documented investment plan for an agribusiness client that identifies costs, protections, and next steps.
