Advanced Evidence Analysis and Integration

This capstone unit develops advanced, interdisciplinary forensic skills by applying laboratory techniques and investigative reasoning to trace evidence, toxicology, pathology, document examination, and biometric analyses. Students synthesize multiple lines of evidence, prepare professional reports, and practice courtroom and laboratory procedures to link suspects to scenes and support investigative decisions.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze trace and pattern evidence (fibers, glass, soils, paints) and comparative media (photographs, typewritten/printed documents) using appropriate forensic principles to link items to persons, objects, or locations.
• Apply forensic toxicology and pathology concepts to interpret toxicological screens, identify common and uncommon poisons, and reconstruct cause and manner of death in scenario-based casework.
• Demonstrate proper laboratory workflow, evidence handling, chain-of-custody documentation, and preparation of technical reports while performing role-based tasks for specialists (DNA analyst, fingerprint examiner, document examiner).
• Evaluate multidisciplinary case scenarios by integrating DNA, fingerprint, trace, toxicology, document, and digital evidence to produce investigatory recommendations and courtroom-ready findings consistent with legal and professional standards.
