Advanced Java Concepts and Careers

This unit deepens object-oriented programming skills with a focus on reference types, access control, packages/modules, operators, and building simple GUIs. It also prepares students for career entry and continued learning by surveying professional resources, networking opportunities, and job-search strategies.

Learning Objectives

• analyze the behavior and memory implications of Java reference types versus primitive types and explain how object references affect mutability and aliasing in programs
• apply Java access modifiers (public, private, protected, package-private), import declarations, and package/module organization to design and implement encapsulated classes and a custom GUI class within a multi-class application
• demonstrate use of operators and conditional selection constructs to compute and update values and to implement targeted data changes (for example, changing payments for selected employees)
• evaluate professional development resources—including Java user groups, news sites, sample-code repositories, and job-search strategies—and produce a personal plan for continued learning, community involvement, and job readiness
