AI for Resilient Societies

This unit examines how artificial intelligence intersects with rights, privacy, public health, safety, and the economy to create resilient communities and ethical technologies. Students evaluate real-world applications, design assessment metrics, and develop inclusive, feasible AI solutions that balance technical viability with social impact.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze ethical, legal, and social implications of AI (privacy, rights, bias, accountability) by evaluating case studies and identifying mitigation strategies.
• Apply social, gender, and economic research approaches to develop assessment tools, criteria, and KPIs that measure AI impacts on public health, jobs, and community resilience.
• Demonstrate the ability to design a feasible AI-enabled business or public service solution (including privacy safeguards and bias mitigation) and produce a deployment plan for target communities.
• Evaluate community engagement and governance strategies to catalyze trusted, transparent, and equitable AI ecosystems, and propose recommendations to optimize AI for public good.
