Applied Prompting and Multimodal AI

This unit develops practical prompt-engineering skills and multimodal use of ChatGPT, covering model selection, UI features, audio and visual outputs, and techniques for chaining, structuring, and augmenting prompts with data. It also addresses ethical and legal considerations and applies these skills to real-world integrations such as chatbots, educator aids, legal workflows, and personalized assistants—building on foundational concepts and preparing students for advanced implementation work in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze ChatGPT UI options and GPT model capabilities to justify selections that meet specific task requirements (text, audio, and multimodal outputs).
• Apply prompt-chaining, structural manipulation, and data-embedding techniques to produce consistent, high-quality responses across text, audio, and visual generation tasks.
• Demonstrate responsible practice by evaluating copyright, intellectual property, misinformation, and privacy risks and revising content (e.g., transforming an angry retort into a tactful response) to meet ethical and legal standards.
• Design and implement a prototype assistant or integration (such as a customer service chatbot, educator support tool, or tailored resume generator) that uses personalization, model selection, and appropriate data visualization or audio options.
