Client-Server Interactivity and Data

This unit develops client- and server-side skills needed to build interactive, data-driven web applications. Students learn DOM manipulation, JavaScript and jQuery event and AJAX techniques, PHP programming with sessions and classes, and advanced MySQL plus security, error handling, and architectural patterns (MVC and scaffolding).

Learning Objectives

• Analyze DOM structures and use JavaScript and jQuery to implement event-driven client-side interactivity, form handling, and dynamic UI updates
• Apply PHP programming constructs (variables, functions, classes, sessions) together with MySQL features to implement secure server-side logic and persistent data storage
• Demonstrate asynchronous client-server communication using the jQuery AJAX library to retrieve, display, and update dashboard components without full page reloads
• Evaluate and apply error-handling, input validation, data sanitization, prepared statements, and MVC/scaffolding concepts to improve application security, reliability, and maintainability
