Cross-Platform App Coding Essentials

This unit advances students’ practical coding skills across web, mobile (Flutter), and data scripting (Python) by focusing on object/DOM manipulation, functions and closures, UI layout and styling, data processing, and developer tooling. Students will apply these skills to build interactive interfaces, pass and serialize data between screens, visualize time series, and prepare applications for deployment.

Learning Objectives

• Apply object-oriented and DOM manipulation techniques in JavaScript to retrieve, set, and delete properties, populate and manage arrays, and interact with element and document methods.
• Demonstrate functional programming concepts including closures and multiple function declaration styles, and use the JavaScript developer console to debug and validate client-side logic.
• Design and style responsive user interfaces for web and mobile by applying CSS techniques and Flutter widgets (including Expanded and TextField), implementing forms, and passing data between screens.
• Analyze and process application data using Python tools and libraries to handle categorical variables, implement bag-of-words and basic text representations, plot time-series data, and prepare artifacts for deployment.
