Designing Inclusive STEM Instruction

This unit develops practical skills for designing, revising, and assessing STEM-focused lessons that integrate technology, universal design, and community resources. Students will practice creating equitable, team-based learning experiences, using OER and government resources, and assessing both content and employability skills in authentic tasks.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze classroom materials, media, and mathematical discourse to identify at least three evidence-based modifications that improve STEM literacy and accessibility
• Apply universal design principles, personalized instruction strategies, and appropriate educational technologies to produce a revised STEM lesson plan that includes objectives, accommodations, and linked open educational resources
• Demonstrate the creation and use of formative and summative assessments (including rubrics and a performance task such as a parachute project) that measure content knowledge and collaboration/employability skills
• Evaluate and revise a multi-lesson unit for equity and community engagement by integrating government resources, team-preparation strategies, hobbyist supports, and at least two justice-centered instructional adaptations
