Dynamic Web and Server Integration

This unit expands student skills in client-side scripting, DOM manipulation, events, and browser storage while introducing server-side development with PHP and MySQL. Students will also learn secure coding practices, debugging techniques, and accessible, responsive design patterns to prepare for advanced web application development.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze and construct JavaScript control flow and data structures (reserved words, keywords, comparisons, logical expressions, loops, functions, and multidimensional arrays) to implement dynamic client-side behavior
• Apply DOM traversal and manipulation, event handling (including preventing default actions and accessing event and form element data), and web storage APIs to build interactive, stateful interfaces
• Demonstrate integration of server-side PHP with MySQL by writing secure scripts that query databases, separate credentials, generate templates, and safely handle file uploads and escaped output
• Evaluate and implement responsive and accessible design and debugging practices, including mobile-first responsive images, accessible text/media, pausing/stepping through code, and use of development tools/editors
