Foundations of ChatGPT Use

This unit introduces learners to ChatGPT account types, GPT model families (including unimodal and multimodal distinctions), core prompt-engineering practices, and practical applications across marketing, education, HR, and everyday workflows. It also frames responsible AI considerations and human-in-the-loop needs to prepare students for deeper technical integration and deployment in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze and compare the features, capabilities, and limitations of ChatGPT account tiers and GPT model variants (including unimodal vs. multimodal) and contrast their suitability with search engines and BI analytics using concrete use-case examples.
• Demonstrate effective prompt-engineering techniques by composing formatted prompts that define desired outputs, produce text and non-text artifacts, stitch multiple outputs, and generate functional code snippets that meet specified quality criteria.
• Apply ChatGPT to real-world scenarios by designing workflows and selecting models/accounts for tasks such as marketing content creation, educational restructuring, HR information retrieval, image generation, contract simplification, and application integration, including setting up an individual account.
• Evaluate responsible AI and data-management considerations by identifying potential bias, intellectual property, and privacy risks, articulating human-in-the-loop review strategies, and recommending practices to ensure trustworthy, targeted outputs.
