This unit establishes foundational skills and knowledge for organic gardening, including core techniques, principles of organic production, site planning, and soil science. Students will assess and build soil health and select appropriate organic fertility practices to prepare for advanced units in pest management, plant propagation, and landscape integration.

- Apply basic organic gardening techniques (seed starting, transplanting, mulching, watering, and cultural pest prevention) to plan and set up a small garden plot or container system
