Foundations of Scrum Practice

This unit introduces the core Scrum framework, roles, ceremonies, and artifacts, and demonstrates how Scrum supports iterative product delivery and customer-focused outcomes. It builds foundational knowledge of backlog management, estimation, feedback loops, and industry use cases to prepare students for applied Scrum practices in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze the Scrum framework by identifying and explaining the responsibilities of the Product Owner, Developers, and Scrum events (Daily Scrum, sprint planning, review, and retrospective)
• Apply product planning artifacts by creating a basic product roadmap, release plan, and prioritized backlog that reflect customer needs and Lean Startup principles
• Demonstrate backlog refinement and estimation techniques by breaking down requirements, using relative estimation methods, and setting up a team task board for sprint work
• Evaluate the benefits and challenges of adopting Scrum across different business contexts (software, healthcare, marketing, HR, publishing) and recommend practices to improve customer satisfaction and team dedication
