This unit introduces students to the planning, tools, and basic technical skills needed to begin building modern websites. Students will assess resources and career options, secure domain and hosting, create wireframes and content plans, define visual schemes, organize sites within Dreamweaver CS6, and build mobile-friendly pages using semantic HTML5 to prepare for advanced styling and interactivity in later units.

- Analyze personal and project resources, timelines, and career pathways (freelance, agency, or employment) to create a realistic web project plan and identify required tools and constraints
- Evaluate domain name and web-hosting options using criteria such as cost, scalability, security, uptime, and technical features, and justify a recommended provider for a sample site
- Apply user-centered design practices by producing wireframes and storyboards, preparing optimized content, and defining a consistent color scheme that addresses accessibility and branding needs
- Demonstrate the ability to organize a site in Dreamweaver CS6 and construct semantic, mobile-friendly HTML5 pages that render correctly across devices
