Global Operations and Compliance

This unit develops students’ ability to operate, protect, and adapt international distribution systems through applied study of cross-cultural factors, regulatory compliance, risk management, and humanitarian logistics. Students build operational skills in shipping/receiving, freight forwarding, cargo screening, returns, personnel management, and mission closeout that prepare them for advanced planning and execution in Unit 4.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze cultural, social, and political influences on international logistics and recommend at least three operational adaptations for a supplied case scenario (commercial or H&DR).
• Apply international regulatory and compliance requirements—including permits, licenses, cargo screening, and special employment provisions for women and minors—to produce complete documentation for a simulated shipment and personnel deployment.
• Demonstrate operational proficiency in global shipping and receiving, freight forwarding, returns handling, and green logistics by completing scenario-based simulations and performance checklists that meet defined criteria.
• Evaluate risks from crises, industrial espionage, and social/political uncertainty and develop a defendable risk mitigation and mission recovery plan, including H&DR team protocols and a mission closeout report.
