Operations, Reliability, and Culture

This unit integrates the technical practices and organizational behaviors that keep software reliable in production. Students will learn deployment and incident management, performance monitoring, container and cloud usage, and how hiring, incentives, and culture influence team effectiveness and product direction, preparing them for advanced integration and the capstone unit.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze deployment and incident-management strategies and implement containerized and cloud-based deployment pipelines to reduce downtime and improve recovery metrics.
• Apply performance monitoring, logging, and feedback-collection techniques to identify bottlenecks, prioritize improvements, and empirically measure progress.
• Demonstrate the design and documentation of resilient software solutions by producing a minimum viable product (MVP), recording design decisions, selecting programming and testing patterns, and implementing failure-mitigation strategies.
• Evaluate hiring, incentive, and culture practices and create role descriptions and customer personas that align incentives, sustain team motivation, and support continuous recruiting and competitiveness.
