Planning, Resourcing, and Control

This unit develops students’ ability to translate project schedules into actionable assignments, establish project control systems, and manage resources and communications within a matrix environment. Students will practice using network diagrams, earned value techniques, PMIS/software tools, and responsibility assignment matrices to monitor progress and ensure team commitments.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze project network diagrams and relate process groups and knowledge areas to schedule, critical path, and dependency management
• Apply earned value management, project control procedures, and software-based PMIS tools to monitor schedule and cost performance
• Demonstrate techniques for assigning work, depicting roles with a responsibility assignment matrix, and managing stakeholders and team relationships in a matrix environment
• Evaluate resource availability and individual commitments, and select appropriate communication media and monitoring actions to maintain team accountability and project control
