Production and Post-Production Techniques

This unit develops technical and creative skills in camera operation, lighting, audio capture, editing, compositing, and final delivery for digital film and media. Students build on foundational concepts to execute production setups, complete post-production workflows, and plan distribution and marketing strategies in preparation for advanced projects and the capstone unit.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze shot composition, camera angles, movement, aspect ratio, and frame rate to determine appropriate visual approaches for different narrative goals and distribution platforms
• Apply camera exposure controls, sensor and shutter concepts, lighting setups and measurement, microphone placement, and on-set electrical safety to configure and execute a production-ready shoot
• Demonstrate post-production workflows by performing edits using the five categories of edits, assembling shot types in the timeline, applying compositing/keying/matte techniques, and producing a final mixed audio track to industry standards
• Evaluate distribution formats and audience strategies by comparing theatrical, home entertainment, and streaming requirements, assessing digital image considerations, and recommending social media marketing and screenplay/scene formatting decisions for a project
