Production Craft and Logistics

This unit develops hands-on production and on-set management skills including lighting, sound, camera operation, continuity, safety, and practical effects, while addressing legal, contractual, and distribution considerations. Students practice preparing deliverables (titles, mixes, textless masters), planning shoots on a budget, and engaging with agents, festivals, and distribution channels to move a film from production toward public exhibition.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze contracts, talent agreements, release forms, and investor documents to identify required clauses and ensure legal and ethical compliance for a student film production
• Apply technical production skills by setting up lighting, microphone placement, camera format/resolution, stabilization, and practical in-camera effects to meet scripted coverage and continuity requirements
• Demonstrate professional on-set procedures including directing actors, maintaining continuity, implementing safety protocols for stunts/effects, and managing data/backup workflows during a multi-day shoot
• Evaluate post-production delivery and distribution options by producing final deliverables (title/credit rolls, textless masters, final audio mix), researching festivals, agents, and distributors, and creating a basic outreach/marketing plan
