Responsive Layouts & DOM Interactivity

This unit teaches students to build accessible, validated, and responsive front-end layouts using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Students will master positioning, flexbox, grid, responsive techniques, selectors, styling, and DOM scripting to add interactivity and preserve state, preparing them for advanced application development in the final unit.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze layout requirements and apply CSS positioning, stacking, flexbox, and grid techniques to construct stable, maintainable page structures.
• Apply responsive design methods—including media queries, viewport-relative units, and responsive images—to optimize content across multiple device sizes and resolutions.
• Demonstrate creation of semantic, accessible HTML and well-structured CSS by using proper text/media alternatives, table and typography styling, selector specificity, and validating code for standards compliance.
• Implement JavaScript fundamentals (variables/reserved words, comparisons, loops, functions), DOM traversal and manipulation, form control handling, timers/pauses, and Web Storage to create interactive, stateful user experiences.
